Welcome to the 2016-2017 Debayte season!

We are so excited to start the season. The Debayters have already been working hard for their myriad upcoming tournaments. This year we have a few exciting changes. We are welcoming three new (old)coaches to our team. Tori Warenik is a Cypress Bay graduate and has taught here for 4 years. She is wonderful and excited to work with our Debayte family. Nicole Arnold is now a full time teacher at Cypress Bay and will still be coaching and attending tournaments with us. Jon Martin is a long time coach for Debayte, and is finally here full time. He left New York City just for us. Nick Montecalvo, will of course be returning as one of our team coaches. He’s excited for the upcoming year especially with the new coaching staff.

You will be able to meet them and our entire coaching staff at the parent meeting on September 8th, at 5pm in the WAVE. Personally, I’ll be very excited to meet all of you and welcome you officially to the new Debayte season. If you are unable to attend, I completely understand please e-mail me and we can chat about what you might miss. Last year, Eric Beilin was on the worlds debate team that won nationals; additionally, we placed in the top 20 for Speech programs. I am confident we will continue our tradition of excellence here at The Bay.

Our year is starting off fast and furious with Wake Forest this weekend for policy, and Braddock and Wake Forest Part 2 the following weekend, for all other events. I’m so excited for these first few tournaments as everyone has been working very hard, coming off multiple weeks of debate camps and further prep in just these first few weeks of school. If you ever want to volunteer or help in anyway please feel free to contact me. If you’d like to donate to the team we’ve included a team wish list to help identify various items we may need as a team. That link is tinyurl.com/DebayteWishList16. You can also look at our website for any information including trip sheets for all tournaments, and our code of conduct which I encourage everyone to look at. We will discuss these items more in-depth at our parent meeting. However, if you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Thank you so much for sharing your kids with us this season!
